Beyonce, nominada a 4 categoriaa en los MTV Europe 2009, se llevó 3 premios en la ceremonia de entrega celebrada en Berlín. Obtuvo premios a la categoria "Mejor artista Femenina", "Mejor video" con su "Single Ladies" y "Mejor canción" por su tema "Halo". En cambio, Shakira con las mismas nominaciones no ganó ningun premio.
Por otro lado Lady Gaga, con 5 nominaciones, sólo ganó un premio al "Artista revelación del año. Green Day ganó en la categoria a "Mejor banda de rock", mientras que el cantante y productor Jay Z venció en la de artista urbano y Placebo en la de artista alternativo.
Así mismo Beyonce se llevó toda la atención y aplausos de los presentes tras su actuaciónen vivo, en la que vestia un sexy corsé rojo.
